HRT Trial Stopped

A major trial of HRT was stopped because researchers found that the combination HRT that was being used by most of the women was found to increase the risk of breast cancer (26%), heart attack (29%) and stoke (41%). However it is important to note that the actual incidence numbers were very low to begin with, that the incidence of bowel cancer experienced a reduction of 37% and that there was a 24% decrease in hip fractures. It is also important to note that a sister trial being undertaken by researchers into oestrogen only HRT for women who have had hysterectomies is still continuing.

  1. Noted this was posted in 2008. Has the trial on estrogen alone arm in hysterectomized women been completed? If not, when is it expected to complete?
