Linda’s Writerly Tidbits – The New Year Issue

OK, I know it’s February and I missed my New Year deadline, but it is the first newsletter of this year and hopefully you’ll allow me to raise a glass to you all and say ‘let’s all look forward to a fab 2014’.

As usual this edition has lots of lovely updates from my Thursday Throng authors as well as some intriguing news about the value of publishing independently vs traditional publishing. Just scroll on down to the bottom to find out more.

Thursday Throng Updates

First up is our very own Jamie Alexander, the author of Nowhere Like Home has decided to take to the Twittersphere, if you’d like to catch up with him you can now find him on his brand new Twitter handle @jamiealexand3r

Mohana Rajakumar is also doing a special Valentine’s day guest blog post here on Woman on the Edge of Reality – It’s title is the provocative ‘Does Love Still Exist?’ so keep an eye out for that one, especially if you have an opinion you’d like to share.

Penni Mannas Diefendorf is offering a free copy of her brand new book ‘UN CONFORM: Only the conscious thrive’ on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th February. You can download it from in the US and from in the UK.

And finally, we’ve got a giveaway still running on Sarah Hegarty’s interview for a free copy of Hysteria 2 – an anthology of short stories from the Hysteria 2013 Writing Competition. Just leave a comment on the relevant interview to be in with a chance of winning.

Indies vs traditional publishing

In a disarmingly frank interview between JA Konrath, Hugh Howey and Legacy John it seems that publishing independently offers a lot more benefits across the board than going with a traditional publisher. For example, best selling indie authors get better ratings on Amazon than traditionally published and it seems that this may be related to the fact that they charge less – given that we often judge the value of something by what we’ve paid for it. Also indie and small-publisher titles dominate all the bestselling genres on Amazon. And finally, indie authors outsell the big five publishing companies combined. You can read the entire interview on JA Konrath’s site here:
