‘Throng’ is n. – A multitude of persons or of living beings pressing or pressed into a close body or assemblage; a crowd.
Welcome to The Thursday Throng and this week I’d like to welcome Jenny Rossiter, the author of ‘The Masks that Men Wear’.
It’s called The Thursday Throng in honour of the throng that waits eagerly outside the book store when a new author is doing a book signing event or appearance. On this website it takes the form of a ‘Meet the Author‘ online event with some information about our author’s latest book and an interview. If you would like to take part in the Thursday Throng then why not email me to find out more.

This week, I’d like to welcome Jenny Rossiter who is the author of The Masks that Men Wear. This is the first part of a trilogy about masks and the way we wear them. Jenny explains that we rarely give a second thought to the masks that we wear or that others hide behind. Yet most of us wear them daily only taking them off when we sleep.
Masks are not all bad; some have their uses. Being conscious of when you wear one and when you see through those of others is more useful still.
Jenny is a business coach and trainer who specialises in change management.
What is One thing that No-One Normally Knows About You?
I’m part Kiwi and have a New Zealand passport
What did the best review you ever had said about you and your work?
I’ve had many reviews on Amazon but valuing my no-nonsense approach this one does it for me “This book relooks at some themes from ‘men are from mars’ and then adds a huge dollop of insight and observation with a generous sprinkling of comedy value. If you’re in a relationship, read it. If you’re not in a relationship, read it. If you want to think and challenge who you are. Read it!”
Are the names of your characters important to you?
Yes they are because I have tried to capture and summarise some of the typical characters of men in a simple memorable way . I’ve kept them to the 7 masks and talk in detail about these so people can remember as well as relate to them easily
How did you choose a title for your book?
It evolved gradually as the book developed. I wrote about it before I had the title
Are there any occupational hazards to being an author?
Yes – people expect you to know what you are talking about!
Do you think there is any elitism attached to the different genres of books, both in the fiction and non-fiction worlds?
Yes I do actually and it’s this that probably stops people from writing books in the first place. The most important thing about writing a book is that you just do it and allow yourself to have a voice rather than listen to the critical voice of others that would happily stop you in your tracks.
Writing is about self expression and there are many ways of doing this that don’t fit the typical elitist views.
Have you ever written naked?
No, it would put me off!
What is the single biggest challenge you faced when writing your book?
Sitting down and writing it rather than being ‘busy’ doing something else
Do you have any hints or tips for aspiring writers?
Yes – set yourself a goal, get some support and encouragement in whatever way you can and just do it. Write with no judgement and see what happens. Don’t try and be perfect as it doesn’t exist!
How do you remain sane while working?
What has been the best experience you have ever had in your life?
Giving birth to my baby girl Poppy.
Where do you find your inspiration?
From myself and talking to others about my thoughts – co creation, never do it alone.
Do you have any favourite resources you would like to share with our readers?
My best resources are other people, friends, strangers, anyone willing to listen and talk.
