Do you ever remember your mother, father or some other person telling you that childhood is the happiest time of your life?  If you don’t, you’re lucky as I was told this for as long as I can remember and like every other child I could never see what they meant.  I just wished to be older so that I could do all the things I thought I’d be able to do.

Do you know what, in many ways they were right.  Since I’ve all growed up, I have responsibilities that I can’t ignore.  I have to earn money in order to pay the bills and eat and I don’t think I ever really appreciated just how free you are as a child.

So why now, of all times do I pick a theme like this to write about.  It’s just that I’ve been comparing life again – as I often do – and realising that although I do have those responsibilities, once again I do have freedom to do pretty much what I want, when I want to do it.  I’m one of the fortunate people because I work for myself and can (if I choose) take a day (or a week or two) off without having to pass it through a line manager or other person who is paid to keep my nose to the grindstone.

From Friday, I shall be doing just that.
