This blog began life way back in the dim and distant t’Internet past of 2006, that’s 9 years ago! Over that time it has gone through many different iterations and taken several different turns; in short it’s ‘lived’ a life that is as full of vagaries as that of the average human bean.
Although I’d been writing books and doing quite nicely thank you very much when I started this particular adventure, I didn’t really know what my blog was about, who it was for or even why I might be using it. In fact, blogging wasn’t really part of the average computer users online experience in those days so it really was a shot in the dark.
I tried out writing for myself, but that didn’t really work because I’m quite a private person even though I give the impression of being ‘out there’; then when I started my first business I thought it could be used to support that, but again it came a cropper as I struggled with topics to talk about. When I merged my business with that of my partner’s I exported the posts into this blog and it had a new face for a short while as a resource on social media marketing, entrepreneurship and mentoring – in fact I still have a whole load of these posts sitting in draft mode while I decide which to keep, which to edit and which to discard completely.
Eventually I settled on it being a resource for other authors and an exploration of my life as a writer. Out of this came the Thursday Throng author interviews, an interest in short fiction and my on-off relationship with ‘book marketing’. It has been this face which has had the most longevity and is the one I’ve become committed too.
But, life is changing again. Where once I blogged about these topics on a daily basis, life got in the way and something had to give … For the last 12 months I’ve focused on the Thursday Throng and let the rest drift, giving myself a much needed break from the pressure I’d created. Now though, the writing itch is back again and you may have noticed me doing a bit of ‘housekeeping’ on the blog – there’s a bit more to go before my OCD is satisfied, at which point I promise to stop for while.
I’m going to start a weekly book marketing post again and I’m planning a project to blog a new novel. Yes, I realise I said I’d never write another novel again after the last (and only) one, but that was then and we all know just how fickle humans can be.
So, I hope you’ll bear with me as I try these new ‘lives’ on for size. I’m sure things will change again in the future, but for the time being this is going to be it.
