Black Cohosh is a herbal remedy which has been shown to be effective in the treatment of menopausal symptoms including hot flushes, tiredness, and mood swings.

In some cases there was even a reversal of some symptoms such as an increase in the amount of vaginal tissue, improved muscle tone and a decrease in vaginal dryness. You can find black cohosh in health food shops.

However, be aware that black cohosh is highly oestrogenic and therefore if you are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer, or other gynaecological cancers you would do well to avoid it.

  1. The problem with your symptoms is that they can be related to many sorts of problem and without some investigation you can’t know what it might be definitively. I think you need to see your GP (or a different one in the practice) and ask to be referred for a second opinion. It may be that your problems are related to IBS but they could easily be associated with the fibroids or endometriosis as well.

  2. Hi, I really need your help, I have been diagnosed with fibroids (small) and endometreosis. After a laporoscopy my gynaecolagist suggested the coil for 6 months if this fails the next plan is a hysterectomy. I’m constantly bloated, horrific moods, acid reflux, constipation, hyper sensitive to food of any kind. I often get oral thrush and experience sickness, diarrhea during a period with excruciating pain for 3 days. I feel I’m going mad as my GP tells me that my bloating is ibs and got to live with the acid reflux. I don’t feel the coil is making any difference and I am thinking of asking for a scan as the gynecologist hasn’t performed one. I would value your opinion and would you have any ideas on help with the bloating.Thank you Helen.
