Linda Parkinson-Hardman, founder of the Hysterectomy Association and Director of Internet Mentor Limited, has been selected as one of the UK’s Woman of Achievement and invited to the annual Women of the Year lunch on Monday 17th October at The InterContinental, London. This event is not only a networking opportunity of the most extraordinary women, but also a celebration of the changes these women have made to improve lives. Founded in 1955, this lunch provides yearly commemoration to a selection of the most inspirational women, and has in the past presented awards to the likes of Annie Lennox (2010), Sara Payne (2008), and Tina Turner (2005).
In July of this year, Linda Parkinson-Hardman received an invitation as recognition for her long-term support and commitment to guiding women through the hysterectomy process. Having founded The Hysterectomy Association in December 1997, Linda has continued to provide impartial and helpful advice to women facing a hysterectomy, ensuring they are making the most informed decisions based on their needs. The association itself remains unique due to the fact it is completely self-supporting, receiving no funding or grants.
Nominated for the award by members of The Hysterectomy Association, Linda said “I can’t tell you how great it feels to have made such a difference in these women’s lives. Invitations to this lunch are like gold-dust and I am so excited to be attending. Without my members, I wouldn’t have been able to set up the support network that exists today.”
In addition to her work for the association, Linda has also written a range of Hysterectomy books; The Pocket Guide to Hysterectomy, Losing the Woman Within, and 101 Handy Hints for a Happy Hysterectomy which is an Amazon best seller in the UK and the US.
Member of The Hysterectomy Association website Tessa Gray said “If it wasn’t for this website, I would never have gotten through my hysterectomy. I met some wonderful ladies through the forum who have helped me a great deal, calmed my nerves and answered all my questions. Linda has truly created a great place for women pre/post hysterectomy to be.” Hysterectomy is one of the most commonly performed operations with an estimated 60,000 operations every year in the UK alone.
