Researchers in the Netherlands have recently brought to light worrying evidence of an increased risk of ovarian or womb cancer in women by the ingesting of Acrylamide.
Acrylamide is found in many common foodstuffs, most notably crisps, potato chips, coffee, biscuits, and bread. This was originally identified in 2002 by a group of Swedish researchers. However, the latest study also shows that Acrylamide can be formed when food stuffs are fried, roasted or grilled to turn them a nice golden brown.
More than 62,000 women were questioned about their diet and health over the course of the study. After 11 years, it was found that women who had eaten around 40g of acrylamide a day were twice as likely to develop womb and ovarian cancer as those who’d eaten around 9g a day.
