Quell symptoms of menopause and build stronger bones!

Women seeking to reduce the number and severity of menopausal symptoms may be offered a brand new treatment that is also thought to help build stronger bones.

It is also thought possible that this option will have fewer of the risks that are normally associated with hormone replacement therapy (HRT). In two different studies over a two year period, nearly 4000 women were involved in research on a new class of drug called tissue selective estrogen complex (TSEC) which are said to offer the same (or similar) benefits of the normal oestrogen supplements fround in HRT, but which reduce the risk and side effects.

The two studies looked at the effect of TSEC on the lining of the womb (endometrium) and on bone density respectively.  What the researchers found was that thickening of the lining womb did not occur to the same extent as it does with traditional HRT and that the drugs gave a greater bone density than other drugs tested.
