Planning your blog posts
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes struggle to know what to say on the various blog posts I write across the web and this one is no exception; in fact, it’s why it’s now mostly author interviews. But all that is about to change ….! More coming soon about that.
One standby trick that has stood me in good stead through the years is tying stories and posts into what’s going on in the wider world. Now, there are lots of different ways to do this; you could do an online search, you could set up alerts about specific topics on the various search engines, or you could use an awareness days calendar like the one below.
Whilst not every event is going to be either interesting to you or your readers, or relevant is a given. What I would say though is that there will be something on a weekly or monthly basis that you can use as the basis of post on your blog. One of the advantages of using special calendar days in this way is that you know some people will be looking up information about the day or the topic involved, and there’s every chance your post might just gain a bit of extra exposure that might otherwise have been lost.
Why not give it a go, just pick an event for a day, a week or a month and see what topics you can come up with that relate to you and your blog specifically. Don’t forget to write about the subject in a way that’s interesting and engaging for the people who visit you, and hey presto, bob’s your uncle, you have new piece of highly relevant content, and the search engines will love you.
